'll double and almost triple that by the end of the commute. >> jennifer said it was hot. you say it's a spare the air day. what presicily does that mean? christie smith is at a castro valley bart station with more. >> reporter: good morning. when you see people heading to the bart station at 4:15 in the morning and they have a t-shirt and no coat, you know it will be a hot one. the air quality is not really good. people are urged to take public transportation. public transportation is not free today like it was previously. still you are being urged to take it or koor pool or walk. anything but driving around alone. this is the third spare the air day in a row. the eighth this year. the heat had people doing their best to avoid it like eating ice cream, getting into the shade or staying inside with the air conditioning after we complain about a long and cool summer. speaking of air conditioning, pg&e was recommending conservation after the heat knocked out power to more than 30,000 customers saturday due to a system overload that went on for nearly three hours as temperatures soared

. and that spokeswoman, i told you that i spoke to, jennifer allen, just arrived about 15 minutes ago. she told me that crews worked overnight to restore water service to 40 households and i spoke to one neighbor this morning. he told me his water was restored around 2:00 a.m. >> we are just going to bed and washing the dishes and water stopped, came outside, and the whole street was flooded. >> it stopped down the street, it happened about a week ago, too. i guess something is going on with the pipes. >> the contra costa water district crews will be out here for the rest of the day. we've been told this 8-inch water main is going to take until at least later today to be completely repaired. of course they have to patch the road. you can see a huge hole right here at morello, but for drivers coming through here and needing to get through the street, they were not allowed last night. they have one lane open this morning. we'll continue to update you on the situation, luckily there was no flooding to any of the residents overnight. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> well a m
